The unit was originally developed for secure military communications, transmitting on a frequency of 2.4 GHz vs the more common 900 MHz analogue frequency. A "multi layered" security system prevents eavesdropping. Smart power management controls the signal range. If you are 4 metres from the base unit, that's as far as the signal broadcasts.
